Cooper's Town

We would like to thank Frankie Furter for his furtastic Name Game idea!

It's serendipitous because it was four years ago this month that I was given a new name and then put here:

That's me on the left and my bro on the right.

That's right, doggie prison! And guess who put me here! Mom! Yeah, you read right - MOM! Maybe I should back up and start closer to the beginning...

Mom drove to the grocery store to do some shopping and there we were (me and my brother) - running around the parking lot trying to make new friends and being shooed away by the employees. They told Mom they had called Animal Control for weeks trying to get us picked up, but no one had come. Mom could see we had the mange and knew she couldn't take us home 'cause she had six other doggies at home, so she put us in her car and took us to the SPCA where she hoped they would take care of us and get rid of our mange while she tried to find out who we belonged to or find us a new home. Mom gave them some money and asked them to start treating our mange, but they wouldn't do it. (Long story for another time) We didn't have collars, so she had to give us names for the paperwork. She thought we were a boy and a girl (cause my brother had longer hair that covered - well, you know - and he looks more girly than me) so she decided to call us Ashley and Cooper because those are the names of two well-known rivers in Charleston and she thought a potential new family would think that was cute and adopt us together. Turns out my "sister" was my "brother" (silly humans), so she changed "Ashley" to "Charlie." (Of course, there was that Ashley guy in Gone With the Wind, but I digress.) The SPCA had to keep us for 5 days to give our family a chance to find us. But, after 5 days, if no one comes, they have different plans for dogs with contagious things like mange. Are you following us here? So, Mom found a vet who would quarantine us and treat our mange.

Yippee! A different kind of dog prison. But she came to see us often and brought us toys and treats - and kept trying to find us a new family - and she did! If you're wondering where Dad was all this time, he was out working and making money to pay for our prison stay.  Charlie went to live a guy that drove a convertible - how fun is that. And I went to live with Mom and Dad and a bunch of brothers and sisters - and I'm lovin' it!

Me and Aspen swimming and fetching balls!  I love Aspen the most.

So, if you got bored somewhere in the middle of this long name story - the short story is:
I was named after the famous Cooper River here in Charleston! So, that makes me sort of famous, right?

Hey Cooper - that's a great story! I am so happy you both made it out of the parking lot and avoided Animal Care and Control. I am a rescue dog, too! Cheers to rescue dogs and second chances!

That was a grate story about how you came to get your name. Morgan's been waiting for pictures of, ahem, certain dogs in your pack to appear! I'm glad you ended up with a great home!

Great story. Your Mom was an angel and saved you both. I always thought that Cooper was a furry cool name in any case, but being named after a river is even better. I'm so glad that your story had a happy ending for both you and your brother.

Excellent story. Love how we have to work on the humans for a while sometimes until they realize their home is with us.

Frankie and Sarge say thanks for the great story. Glad your with good folks now and touring the countryside. Most of us just have a yard, but you get a whopper of a territory to explore! Love the scenery and thanks for playing the Name Game.

Bunny - Did you see the pics of Aspen and Gracie? There are some of them in older posts, too. They are the only two GSDs in our pack now :( We'll try to get them in front of the camera more often!

Maggie Mae - Unfortunately, my bro and his Dad moved so I don't get to see him. Thanks for asking about him, though!

I found your blog today and after reading your latest posts, I decided to look for your story. I'm glad I did because I loved it. *happy bark* I am following you now, and because you are so cute and funny, I'm leaving an award for you on my blog. I'm sorry ts a couple days late-- I'm so new to being a doggie blogger that I didn't have enough friends to do it earlier.
