Peeps on Parade

Hey!  We're marching in SARGE'S PEEPS ON PARADE this Memorial Day Weekend.  And 'cause we love our peeps so much, we're gonna spend the whole post telling you about them.  Be warned, though, they are not nearly as exciting and fun as us.  We've tried to put lots of pics to keep you from falling asleep.

Dad is a fun (and funny) guy.  Things are more exciting when he's around.  He's worked in construction for lots and lots of years.

He wears one of these
BUT

These are his tools

NOT these

He's more of a project manager and makes sure the wooden things get put together right.  He still gets to use HBO words, just not while holding a hammer.  Dad actually likes to build things, but just for the family.

He put this together all by himself

Ha Ha.  Just kidding!  But he did make sure some of the woodwork inside that building got put together right.

Like this - Vegas, baby!

Some of Dad's favorite things to do:

Traveling with us, especially in the mountains!

Playing fetch with us!

Hmmmm, an interesting serious thing about Dad.  That’s kinda hard ‘cause Dad’s a pretty funny guy.  But, we guess this could be serious – many years ago Dad trained for Search & Rescue with our brother Jake and Gracie.

Now, something funny about Dad - well, there's lots of stuff, but most of it we can't really share here.  But here's something we can share - he's really good at imitating Carl from Sling Blade - you know, "I'd like me some more of them french-fried taters, um hm."  this cracks Mom up!

Okay, now for Mom.  Mom loves to make stuff and learn new stuff and has a short attention span.  She's had lots of jobs over the years and then found metalworking and she's been in love ever since.  She loves melting, hammering and sawing metal to make jewelry. It's one of her favorite ways to relax, too.

Mom at work

And, of course, she loves hanging out with us.  She also loves movies, especially romantic comedies.  If there's a dog or a horse init, that's even better - Must Love Dogs is one of her faves.

She hates to cook and is not sure what this is or how to work it.

She loves the mountains but hates snow.  A tropical island with mountains would be her ideal place.  Um, as long as there was a restaurant close by, preferably Mexican or Italian.

We think we could dig that, too!

See, even when we embellish, our peeps aren't very exciting!

PeeS - If anybody talks to Sarge, tell him our Peeps Post is up. Blogger still won't let us comment on his blog. We'll be away from the computer tomorrow, so we'll catch up with everybody next week. Have a great holiday weekend!

Sweeeeet Pressie from Sugar's Paw House

We are super jazzed about the great pressie we got from Sugar the Golden Retriever.  Just wait 'til you see it! Mom was so excited that she ripped right into the package without even letting us check it out first. That's okay, though, there were no edibles in there.

Anyway, HERE'S what Sugar sent us!

It's a SUPER COOL luggage tag with OUR LOGO on it!  How awesome is that???  Plus, there's space on the back for our contact info, in case Mom & Dad ever leave our stuff at some campground or motel.  It's made from really thick plastic so it's waterproof and durable!

We LOVE our logo and we would like to have it on as many things as possible so this is FABULOUS!  We're not on a road trip right now, but we've got TONS of stuff we could put this on 'cause we ride in the car a LOT -even if it's just around town.  We think we'd better put it on something of OURS real quick 'cause Mom was saying she could put it on her PURSE and Dad could put it on his luggage 'cause he's traveling again.  BUT this is OURS, right Sugar???  Tags like this and lots of other are gonna be available soon at Sugar's Paw House so keep Sugar in mind for all your tag needs!  THANKS SUGAR!!!

In other news - we are apparently having the same BLOGGER problems that Puddles is having.  We can't comment on some blogs.  We couldn't figure out what was going on and spent like, 87 hours trying to post one comment - logging in over and over and over and over and . . . well you get the idea.  Anyway, we thought it was something MOM did to our computer.  She's always messing up computers ;)  But, this time it looks like it's not really her fault.  If anyone figures out the problem and how to fix it, please let us know.

Anyway, we had given up trying to comment for a few days, but today is the first day of SARGE'S PEEPS ON PARADE and we stopped by his place to see what was happening.  We tried about 87 million times to post a comment on his blog.  It was a loooong comment.  Each time we tried to post, it got shorter 'cause we couldn't remember exactly what we said the first time.  BUT, it was good, we're sure.  We finally copied what we wanted to say into Word to save it for later when BLOGGER gets its act together.  BUT, since we're posting today, we decided we're gonna post our comment whether BLOGGER lets us or NOT.  SO - Sarge, if you're reading this, here's our comment on your post today:

Sarge – You have the greatest peeps for pawrents!  It seems a perfect fit that you all like to do the same things!  Bet you're super proud of your Dad for saving someone’s life.  And, of course, your Mom for that olive whistle thing! Maybe she could go on America’s Got Talent! Bet she’s better than most of the people that get on that show.  Wait, wait, we’re getting an idea.  Maybe she could make little wooden whistles in the shape of olives, and sell tons and make like 87 million dollars and quit her job and stay home with you and your Dad and play all day! She could call them olive ocarinas.  We would definitely buy one!
This was a great post about your peeps.  We just wish you lived closer so your Dad could hunt some mushrooms for our Mom.  She LOVES mushrooms but she has to hunt hers at the store.

We’re still embellishing, um, putting the finishing touches on our post.  We’ll let you know when it’s up!

Okay, well, that's all for today.  We're tired of BLOGGER right now.  We'll make our way around blogville this weekend and see what everyone's up to and read all about your peeps!

Artsy Fartsy Friday

Before we show you some really fun, cool art today, we're gonna give Mom a little bit of space here.  BUT, before you click off, don't worry, it's art related AND dog related ~ plus we're gonna introduce you to a new furiend - Kenny!

Kenny at the Keyboard

Kenny is the star of LOL Doxie.  His Mom may write some of the blog posts, but they are ALL inspired by Kenny (and his new sister, Ginger).  We assume he will be sharing the spotlight with Ginger on occasion - 'cause he's that kind of guy.  Kenny and his Mom love handcrafted art, especially dachshund art.  So they did a post today about Mom's Doxie jewelry HERE

Mom was super thrilled to be featured on Kenny's blog and to share her inspiration with some new furiends.  If you have a minute, stop by and say "HI" to Kenny.  He loves to meet new furiends!  Be sure to check out all the adorable Doxie photos and videos.

Since Kenny was kind enough to feature Mom's work, we would like to share another of his artist finds with you.  His name is Glen Hettrick and he is owned by two doxies Bitey and Porkchop.

He is a super-talented guy and paints a wide variety of subjects ~ pets portraits, of course, but also farm animals and scenes, movie stars, you name it ~ with a folk art flair.  Click HERE for more links and info about Glen's work.  You'll be glad you did!  Remember, Father's Day is just around the corner.  Wouldn't your Dad or Grandad or any guy in your family love a little portrait of YOU?!

A Rooster, A Joke and Fun Events

A little silver-haired lady calls her neighbor and says, "Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure out how to get started."

Her neighbor asks, "What is it supposed to be when it's finished?"

The little silver haired lady says, "According to the picture on the box, it's a rooster."

Her neighbor decides to go over and help with the puzzle.

She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table.

He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says, "First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster."

He takes her hand and says, "Secondly, I want you to relax. Let's have a nice cup of tea, and then," he said with a deep sigh .............

(scroll down)

"Let's put all the Corn Flakes back in the box."

[Disclaimer:  Wish we could remember which blog we got this from but alas CRS has struck again (Can't Remember S...tuff).  But we are not claiming it as our own . . . ]

Hey, everyone - in case you haven't heard there are some exciting events coming up in Blogville.  Check out the links for details and come join the fun.  We may need to borrow some interesting tidbits about some of your peeps, 'cause we've just realized how incredibly boring our peeps are.

Sarge's Peeps on Parade - Memorial Day Weekend

And, if you can, please consider helping Pip's Dog Team come in first this year at The Red Door Animal Shelter's GIMME SHELTER Walk for the Animals 2011!  The bunnies and cats have been fundraising maniacs and we say it's the YEAR OF THE DOG!  No more last place finishes!  We're Number 1!  We're Number 1!

Artsy Fartsy Friday - Finally!

Thanks so much to all of you who stopped by to wish our Dad a Happy Birthday!  He was so appreciative and said it meant a LOT to him :)  He doesn't have a blogging account so he couldn't tell you "Thanks" personally - so we are going to!  THANKS!!!

Okay, we're gonna do Artsy Fartsy Friday a little bit different today.  Instead of just one artist, we gonna show you a whole GALLERY of artists - 16 to be exact.

All of these artists are on Etsy (you know what a thing we have for Etsy, right?).  One of the artists (HideStyle) is a member of the Etsy Beagles Team that Mom is on.  Yeah, we know, none of us are technically Beagles, but Kayla sometimes claims to have a bit of Beagle in her.  Plus, they are just a really great group of people and love ALL dogs.  Anyway, HideStyle makes awesome dog collars and one of their collars was featured in a Treasury (an Etsy Member-Curated Gallery of items from different shops).  She shared it with the Beagles Team and we just had to share it with YOU.  When we first saw it, we immediately thought of Miss M and Mr. B (Two Pitties in the City).

You can click on any photo to take you to that shop and see bigger photos!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is our Dad's BIRTHDAY!  We wouldn't usually do birthday posts, BUT Dad's at work about a million miles away in NORTH Carolina (okay, so it's just about 500 miles) and we won't get to wish him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY in the fur, so we wanted to do a special post just for him so he knows how much we LOVE him and MISS him!  So - THIS is for YOU, DAD!

On his birthday LAST year, we were on our big adventure heading Out West - remember this, Dad?  These pics are from Byrd's Adventure Park in Arkansas ~

Now, just so you know how great our Dad is, we're gonna tell you about something special he did just for US!  You know how when you go out and play and have so much fun that you get all yukky and dirty???  Then, you have to have a BATH?  And EVEN though you've just been swimming in water and got ALL WET, you just hate that COLD water from the hose BLASTING you (and sometimes on your, um, sensitive parts)?  Well, our Dad is SO thoughtful that he asked the plumbing guys to come out to our house and put a SPECIAL hose connection right from the water HEATER to the outside so that we can get baths outside with WARM water.  We LOVE getting baths now after having fun getting all dirty!  Is he the BEST Dad or WHAT?!

Regular COLD hose

Mmmm, nice WARM hose

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!!  WE LOVE YOU!

Artsy Fartsy Friday

We're bringing it real local for this Artsy Fartsy Friday with the work of Vicki Faith.   Vicki is multi-talented - she not only paints and draws, but she takes amazing photographs, too!  Of course, you know we're gonna share her dog art with you today, but that's NOT all she does.  Did we mention that we know her personally?!  And we own some of her work :)

There's so much to love about Vicki's dog paintings.  Of course, we love that dogs are featured, but we also love the bright colors and the cool "frames" she paints around each one.

We also love how she knows the mind of a dog.  Check this out!

Surrounded by tennis balls!  Yeah!

Squirrel chasing dreams.

Field of Tennis Ball Dreams!

Hey, look!  It's those AirMutts!

We caught up with Vicki and asked her a few pertinent questions, just like they do in those Vanity Fair interviews.

RD:  First of all, everyone will want to know about the animals that live with you - your "studio assistants" or "muses".

VF:  I share my life with 2 big happy Labrador retrievers, Griffin and River.

(RD: We think those are super cool names!)

RD:  Tell us your favorite artistic medium and why.  And have you ever thought of using Milkbones as a medium.

VF:  It changes daily but I am currently leaning toward paper as a medium in itself. It is just so flexible.

(RD:  Looks like our Milkbone suggestion didn't impress Vicki.)

RD:  Tell us your favorite subject to draw or paint and why.

VF:  I am drawn to natural subjects - flowers, birds, dogs (of course) and architectural studies mostly. That is where I find my peace and connection.

RD:  Tell us about your work with animal charities.

VF:  I donate time with SWAT (Southern Women's Animal Taskforce) and their fundraiser Pour It Forward, a once a month event to raise money for various dog rescue organizations.

(RD:  Mom went to the first Pour It Forward at Earthly Artifacts to benefit a pup named Vinnie that was found in Mt. Pleasant and in serious need of medical attention.  Lots of money was raised to help Vinnie and everybody had a great time while doing it - lots of music, lots of wine, yummy nommies and lots of great art - and some people even brought their dogs.  We did not get to go to this.  Just saying . . .)

RD:  Now this is a corny question, but we're gonna ask it anyway. Since you're an artist who creates colors, we want to know if you have a favorite color. Is it an ordinary color like the rest of us would think of - you know, tennis ball yellow, Kong red, cheese orange?  Or is it something exotic like snow right after you pee on it or the subtle colors of the Milkbones in the variety box?

VF:  My favorite color changes daily! And today it is that lovely bright fuzzy green of the underside of a baby basil leaf just unfurling.

RD:  Mmmm, we're picturing basil . . . on a PIZZA!  Yumm . . .

Now, we're gonna show you the pup we bought for our personal art collection.  Are you ready for this?

We LOVE pink (okay, Mom loves pink) but we love this pup's heart-shaped nose! How adorable is that?

RD:  Where can folks buy your work?

VF:  Right now my work is available at Earthly Artifacts in Mt. Pleasant or directly from me.

(RD:  You can contact Vicki at twoluckystudio@gmail.com for pricing and availability.  We would like to add that Vicki's work is very affordable.)

If you are traveling through Charleston, you should check out Vicki's work in person at Earthly Artifacts in Mt. Pleasant.
