Have You Herd?

And the next thing we know, we're herding buffalo* in Yellowstone!

We think this group must be headed to a 75% off sale at Macy's.

Cooper and Aspen barked their encouragement to "hurry up" but, there's one thing we learned -

there's really no hurrying a 2000 lb. buffalo and his family - FYI

And just so we can say we did our civic duty, here's a link to pet regulations in Yellowstone.

*Pawnote - We have used the term "buffalo" to describe our cloven-footed friends pictured in this post.  The scientific term for these cud chewers in North America is apparently "bison," although the two are being used interchangebly now.  We like "buffalo" 'cause it just sounds cooler - who ever heard of a campfire song called "Bison Gals Won't You Come Out Tonight?"  Sounds all wrong! Right?  Anyway, they didn't seem to mind what we called them as long as we weren't packing rifles!

Wow, I have never seen a baby buffalo - or a mama buffalo for that matter! Were they phased by you guys, doesn't look like it?

Sam - They were pretty cool up close!

Pip - They paid no attention to us whatsoever! Our barking didn't encourage them to move one bit faster!

Houndstooth - We think it was more like they convinced us to sit there and wait until they got good and ready to move.

Didja notice these guys don't have to wear leashes!

We have a herd of buffalo that lives just down the street from us. They don't pay any attention when we go by. They're so big that we don't bark at them, we don't want to make them mad.

There was once a buffalo - or bison, that lived in my town. I have no idea why he lived there. It was before my time. It seemed like his humans just decided that it would be a good idea to have a buffalo and they got him when he was little (for a buffalo) and raised him on this piece of property that was probably not much more than half an acre. I don't think you could do that nowaday. Anyhoo...very cool sight to see. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hi everybuddy,

Those bison are big critters. We have to drive past a small herd when we go to see the vet. Sometimes we stop to watch them. They make lots of noise snorting and rolling in the mud holes! My mom thinks the baby ones are cute.
