Artsy Fartsy Friday

We're bringing it real local for this Artsy Fartsy Friday with the work of Vicki Faith.   Vicki is multi-talented - she not only paints and draws, but she takes amazing photographs, too!  Of course, you know we're gonna share her dog art with you today, but that's NOT all she does.  Did we mention that we know her personally?!  And we own some of her work :)

There's so much to love about Vicki's dog paintings.  Of course, we love that dogs are featured, but we also love the bright colors and the cool "frames" she paints around each one.

We also love how she knows the mind of a dog.  Check this out!

Surrounded by tennis balls!  Yeah!

Squirrel chasing dreams.

Field of Tennis Ball Dreams!

Hey, look!  It's those AirMutts!

We caught up with Vicki and asked her a few pertinent questions, just like they do in those Vanity Fair interviews.

RD:  First of all, everyone will want to know about the animals that live with you - your "studio assistants" or "muses".

VF:  I share my life with 2 big happy Labrador retrievers, Griffin and River.

(RD: We think those are super cool names!)

RD:  Tell us your favorite artistic medium and why.  And have you ever thought of using Milkbones as a medium.

VF:  It changes daily but I am currently leaning toward paper as a medium in itself. It is just so flexible.

(RD:  Looks like our Milkbone suggestion didn't impress Vicki.)

RD:  Tell us your favorite subject to draw or paint and why.

VF:  I am drawn to natural subjects - flowers, birds, dogs (of course) and architectural studies mostly. That is where I find my peace and connection.

RD:  Tell us about your work with animal charities.

VF:  I donate time with SWAT (Southern Women's Animal Taskforce) and their fundraiser Pour It Forward, a once a month event to raise money for various dog rescue organizations.

(RD:  Mom went to the first Pour It Forward at Earthly Artifacts to benefit a pup named Vinnie that was found in Mt. Pleasant and in serious need of medical attention.  Lots of money was raised to help Vinnie and everybody had a great time while doing it - lots of music, lots of wine, yummy nommies and lots of great art - and some people even brought their dogs.  We did not get to go to this.  Just saying . . .)

RD:  Now this is a corny question, but we're gonna ask it anyway. Since you're an artist who creates colors, we want to know if you have a favorite color. Is it an ordinary color like the rest of us would think of - you know, tennis ball yellow, Kong red, cheese orange?  Or is it something exotic like snow right after you pee on it or the subtle colors of the Milkbones in the variety box?

VF:  My favorite color changes daily! And today it is that lovely bright fuzzy green of the underside of a baby basil leaf just unfurling.

RD:  Mmmm, we're picturing basil . . . on a PIZZA!  Yumm . . .

Now, we're gonna show you the pup we bought for our personal art collection.  Are you ready for this?

We LOVE pink (okay, Mom loves pink) but we love this pup's heart-shaped nose! How adorable is that?

RD:  Where can folks buy your work?

VF:  Right now my work is available at Earthly Artifacts in Mt. Pleasant or directly from me.

(RD:  You can contact Vicki at twoluckystudio@gmail.com for pricing and availability.  We would like to add that Vicki's work is very affordable.)

If you are traveling through Charleston, you should check out Vicki's work in person at Earthly Artifacts in Mt. Pleasant.

This is a great interview, but I think some of the last question is missing. It says her favorite color is "bright fuzzy green like the underside of a baby." Baby what, we want to know & we can't see your personal collection either.

Her work is pretty cool, though.

Wow! Those are cool! She should consider making some of those (like the the squirrel chasing dreams one) into cross-stitch patterns. Seriously. 'Cause that it totally something Mom would stitch! Thanks for a wonderful artsy-fartsy Friday!

These are great, too! If we ever do sell our place (and don't lose our shirts in the process), Mama wants to buy some of the work you have been featuring. Not sure how she will ever decide - so many wonderful artists to choose from!

Your pal, Pip

P.S: If any any of you roadies want to attend the superhero party in costume, have your mom send us some pictures and we will see what we can do. Just send them soon so we can get started - and give hints as to which superheroes you would like to be.
